Allegedly Overused

Allege - to state that someone has done something illegal or wrong without giving proof.

Allegedly, there is a local newspaper that has the habit of inserting the word 'allege' (and all it's derivatives) where possible. Allegedly, they do this to avoid lawsuits and such. The terms "Iwas pusoy" and "Cover your ass" come to mind.

It shouldn't be a big deal, but to use the words more than once in one story is pushing it a bit. Maybe if the alleged writers and alleged editors just used the alleged words in their alleged headers, it would allegedly save a lot of alleged space, not to mention, save this allegedly O.C. writer from allegedly severe headaches. Or so I'm told.

Big Brother

Well, I finally convinced mom to have a little version of '1984' for our businesses. The plan is to have a surveillance system installed in sensitive areas like the accounting departments, and the Villa's food preparation and handling area.

We'll probably have the system up in a couple of weeks, maybe even sooner. But the question is, should we let the employees know that they are being watched? The jury's still out on that one. On one side, it will minimize slacking off on company time and pilferage, among other things. On the other... *shrug*

Would it increase work efficiency? Maybe. Or they could just pretend to work. Would it decrease the chance of theft and pilferage? Sure.

I already have a test system installed in the Villa, but I plan on widening its coverage as soon as possible. It would be nice to be able to see everything that's happening, to be on top of things at all times. And experience has taught me: "Trust, but not completely."

Couch Potato

I am quite pleased with my find - the 7-season boxed set of Star Trek: The Next Generation.

It's a 48-disc set. Micki and I are just finished with Disc 1 of Season 1. At the rate we're going, we're going to finish the whole series in three months. Just in time, too. I ordered the complete Star Trek: Voyager series, and it's arriving in a month.

And if that's not enough to pin us to the couch until December, my brother's lending us his Stargate SG-1 Complete Season 1-7 set.

Now that summer is here, I'm inclined to stay indoors. What could be better than sitting in a darkened room with the A/C on 'Flash Freeze' and watching TV?
