R.I.P.

After more than six years of faithful service, my cable modem, a Motorola CyberSurfer, has finally died. It's been through a lot, it started out at 512 kbps (2000) and bowed out at 8.0 mbps (Nov. 26, 2006).

I had my reservations with it's younger and sexier sibling, the Motorola SurfBoard, at first. It scored poorly at 128 kbps when the cable guys hooked it up for the first time. After they tweaked a few settings on their end, it is now zipping happily along at 3 mbps. Perhaps it'll break the 5 mbps mark after a few calls to my ISP...
